Delhi Vande Bharat Express: The 'Mission Raftaar' project started running the train between Mumbai and Delhi at a speed of 160 km per hour five years ago. More than 90% work of this project with 1,478 route km and cost of Rs 8 thousand crore has been completed. To run the trains at speed on this entire route, fencing is necessary on both sides of the tracks.
792 route km, i.e. about fifty percent of the scheme, is under the jurisdiction of Western Railways. In which the work of cattle fencing and wall fencing has almost been completed. Railways said that speed trials can be held here by May 2024. India is also likely to run its first sleeper Vande between Mumbai and Delhi.

Indian Railways' "Kavach" technology enhances the speed and safety of trains on the entire route. Trains which are fitted with armour. They cannot collide head-on because the train will automatically brake. December 2022: Three contract awards were received for installing armor in 90 engines on 735 km on Western Railway.
Successful trial has been conducted on 142 km. The armor installation work is expected to be completed by December 2024. So far, 62 km of trials have been conducted in Vadodara-Ahmedabad section, 40 km on Virar-Surat and 37 km on Vadodara-Ratlam-Nagda section.
This way the speed will increase
At present the average speed of trains on the Delhi-Mumbai route is 80 to 100 km/hour. Work is underway to strengthen the track and build walls on both sides. So that the speed of trains can be increased. An engineering department official associated with the mission said that apart from strengthening the wall and track, the straighter the track will be, the more the speed will be maintained.

Under this project, 107 curves have been straightened in the Western Railway area. Soon the remaining 27 curves will also be straight. Indian Railways has 52 kg 90 UTS tracks at most places. But for a speed of 160 km per hour, 60 kg 90 UTS rail is required.
According to the project, the work of changing the tracks on the Mumbai-Delhi route is going on at a fast pace. To increase the speed, the cushion of stone ballast under the tracks is increased from 250 mm to 300 mm.
