Nagpur News: Nagpur Municipal Corporation announces withdrawal of reservation for elections, what is the picture like in the Chief Minister's city?
Nagpur, Jitendra Khapre: The much-awaited Nagpur Municipal Corporation general election process has now gained momentum in the city. After the announcement of the Nagar Parishad and Nagar Panchayat elections, the reservation draw process of Nagpur Municipal Corporation was held on Tuesday at the Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium. With this, the colorful contest of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation elections has now formally begun.
According to the information received from the Municipal Corporation, a total of 151 corporators will be elected in Nagpur Municipal Corporation. There are 38 wards in the city, out of which 37 wards will have four members each and ward number 38 will have three members. Out of the total seats, 50 percent i.e. 76 seats have been reserved for women candidates. Therefore, this election will see 76 female corporators and 75 male corporators.
In the reservation draw, reservations were fixed for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (OBCs) as well as general women. As per the draw, two seats each have been reserved for the OBC category in both the wards, Ward No. 15 and Ward No. 19. Welcoming this decision, the OBC community has expressed satisfaction, and political activities at the local level have also gained momentum.
As per the draw, there will be 69 seats for the general category, 40 for the other backward classes, 30 for the scheduled castes and 12 for the scheduled tribes in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. This includes reservation for women candidates. Due to this draw, the picture of which candidates from which ward will contest the elections has now become clear. As a result, preparations for the upcoming elections have gained momentum by former corporators and new aspirants.
As per the schedule announced by the Municipal Corporation, the reservation draft will be published on Monday, November 17, 2025. Citizens have been given a deadline from November 17 to 24 to submit suggestions and objections regarding this draft from 3 pm. The Municipal Corporation has appealed to the citizens to submit their objections or suggestions in person at the Municipal Corporation headquarters, election office or the concerned ward office.
After this process, the final reservation list will be published and the election dates are expected to be announced after that. Discussions have intensified in the city's political circles after the draw. Various parties have focused on the reservation format and have started planning strategies for the upcoming elections. The attention of Nagpur residents is focused on this election, which is being held after a wait of eight years, and the color of politics in the city has increased even more after the reservation draw.
