Name Change: Name of This State of Country Will Be Changed, Resolution Passed in Assembly
Thiruvananthapuram:The Kerala Assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution urging the Center to officially change the name of the state to 'Keralaam'. The resolution was moved by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in which he urged the central government to change the name of the state to 'Keralaam' in all the languages included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India.
The resolution was accepted by the Congress-led opposition UDF (United Democratic Front) without suggesting any amendments or changes. Thereafter, Speaker AN Shamseer declared it a resolution passed unanimously by the Assembly on the basis of support given by show of hands.

Moving the resolution, the Chief Minister said that the state is called 'Keralam' in Malayalam. But in other languages it is still Kerala. He said that the need for a united Kerala for the Malayalam speaking communities has emerged strongly since the time of the national freedom struggle. The Chief Minister said, “But the name of our state is written in the first schedule of the Constitution as Kerala.” He said, “This assembly unanimously requests the central government. That it may take immediate steps to amend it to 'Keralaam' under Article 3 of the Constitution and to change its name to 'Keralaam' in all the languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution."

Meanwhile, the state government has urged the central government to change the name of Kerala to Keralam in official documents and in the 8th schedule of the constitution. The Congress-led opposition UDF has accepted the request without any modification or change. After this, on the basis of support, Assembly Speaker AN Shamseer announced the unanimous passing of this resolution.

At the same time, Kerala Chief Minister Vijayan has requested the Central Government to change the name of the state from Kerala to Keralam in the First Schedule of the Constitution. He said that we request unanimously. That this name be amended under Article 3 of the Constitution. Where CM Pinarayi has also appealed to take immediate steps in this regard. Not only this, the state government is demanding that the name of the state of Kerala be changed to Keralam in all the languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
