The last vote of his life will be for Congress, but the resignation of a veteran leader raising the issue of 5 votes

Patna: The Congress has suffered a big setback as soon as the Bihar assembly elections are over. While exit polls were predicting a victory for the NDA in the state, a veteran Congress leader has resigned. After this, an earthquake has occurred in the Bihar Congress.

Shakeel Ahmed, who was the president of the Bihar Congress, has resigned from the party. While resigning, he has written a long letter. 'Recall the letter I wrote on April 16, 2023. I had already informed the party that I do not want to contest any elections in the future. I had just told them that all my three children have settled in Canada and they are not interested in politics. Therefore, the possibility of them contesting the elections is zero. But still, I had said that I will remain in the Congress for the rest of my life. But Mr. President, that is not possible now,' Shakeel Ahmed has mentioned in the letter.

'I am resigning from the membership of the Congress party with a very emotional heart. I am leaving the party, this does not mean that I am thinking of joining any other party. Like my grandfather and father, I also have full faith in the principles of the Congress. I will be a well-wisher and supporter of the policies and principles of the Congress throughout my life. My last vote in life will be for the Congress,' Ahmed said in the letter.

I had already decided to leave the Congress membership. But I am announcing this after voting. Because I felt that the party should not lose even 5 votes in Bihar because of me, Ahmed wrote in the letter. 'I could not campaign this year because the weather was not good. But this year the Congress seats will increase and a grand alliance government will come,' he expressed his belief.

Shakeel Ahmed's family has always been of Congress ideology. His grandfather, the late Ahmed Ghafoor, became an MLA on a Congress ticket in 1937. After his death in 1948, Shakeel Ahmed's father, Shakur Ahmed, contested the assembly. He remained a Congress MLA from 1952 to 1977. After Shakur's death in 1981, Shakeel Ahmed remained an MLA and MP for 5 times. He was the Minister of State for IT in Manmohan Singh's cabinet. He was the leader of the Bihar Congress from 2000 to 2003.
