BCCI Made These 2 Indian Players Umpires, Have Played Under The Captaincy of Virat Kohli
Yuva Patrkaar, New Delhi : Two former star players of Indian cricket, Tanmay Srivastava and Ajitesh Argal, who were part of the victorious Under-19 World Cup team under the captaincy of Virat Kohli in 2008, are now set to embark on a new journey as umpires. After saying goodbye to their cricketing career about 3-4 years ago, Tanmay and Ajitesh appeared for the umpiring exam conducted by BCCI and both of them passed the exam successfully. Now, he is preparing to become an umpire in first-class matches in India.
Opener batsman Tanmay Srivastava, 33, and fast bowler Ajitesh Argal, 34, appeared for the umpiring exam in Ahmedabad last month. His success was confirmed by the declaration of results on 26 July. As a next step, he will attend the BCCI's orientation program and seminar to be held in Ahmedabad from August 17 to 19. Thereafter, they will officiate in matches organized by both the boards.

Expressing happiness over the achievement, Tanmay said that he is happy to be a part of the BCCI umpiring panel. He is excited to be associated with cricket. And consider umpiring as a great opportunity to contribute to cricket. Tanmay had joined coaching after retiring from the game, but was keen to explore further avenues and umpiring seemed like a good option for him. He is expected to represent India as an umpire in the ICC in the near future.
Uttar Pradesh's left-handed batsman Tanmay Srivastava showcased his talent in the 2008 Under-19 World Cup, scoring 262 runs in six matches at an average of 52.40. He contributed by playing an inning of 46 runs in the final. During his first-class career, he played 90 matches and scored 4918 runs at an average of 34.39, including 10 centuries and 27 fifties. In List A matches, he scored 1728 runs in 44 matches at an average of 44.30 and scored 7 centuries.

On the other hand, fast bowler Ajitesh Argal played a key role in India's victory in the 2008 Under-19 World Cup. In the final, he made a significant impact with his bowling and took 2 wickets for just 7 runs in 5 overs. Although his first-class career was relatively short with 10 matches, he still managed to take 24 wickets at an average of 31.29.
After their memorable victory in the Under-19 World Cup, both Tanmay and Ajitesh retired from cricket. However, their decision to take up umpiring offers them a new and promising opportunity to engage with the cricket they are both passionate about. With their experience as former players and their new roles as umpires, they aim to make a significant contribution to the game they love.
