Mahindra Has Got Permission To Sell its Roxor, This Car is Exclusively For America
Yuva Patrkaar, New Delhi: India's leading automobile manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra will now be able to sell its Roxor (Roxer) off-roader in the US. The court has ruled in favor of the Indian company in a design infringement case by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Group (Stellentis). Let us tell you that FCA Group had filed a lawsuit to stop the sale of Roxor due to the similarity in design of Roxor with its Jeep (Jeep) model.
Actually Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV had filed the case for the first time in 2019. He then claimed that the design of the Mahindra Roxor copied trademark-protected components from Jeep. They filed a lawsuit against Mahindra in Michigan and before the US International Trade Commission ie ITC.
This led Mahindra to stop selling the Roxor in the US until a court ordered it to make design changes. And FCA, in its filing, complained that the Roxor is a "near-identical copy" of the Jeep. Which has some design elements. Like “boxy body shape with flat looking vertical sides and rear body ending at the same height as the hood.

Mahindra informed in the regulatory filing that the Eastern District Court of Michigan issued its opinion and order on July 19, 2023, on FCA's new proposal to join the post-2020 Roxor. Based on its analysis, the FCA has refused to implement the safe distance rule in this case. Along with this, FCA's proposal to join ROXOR after 2020 has been rejected. With this decision, the company's subsidiary Mahindra Automotive North America will not impose any restrictions on its ability to produce, sell, and distribute the post-2020 ROXOR in the United States.
In the beginning of 2020, the design of the Roxor was changed and then it was updated to give a look from the Jeep SUV. In September 2022, the Sixth US Circuit Court of Appeals referred the case to a Detroit court, ruling that the post-2020 Roxor's design was a "safe distance" from Jeep's design, and the court then denied Fiat's request to enforce the "safe distance rule" on the Roxor.
