There are around 4700 KSRTC across the state. There are buses. Of these, 100% are ordinary. There will be free travel on 300 city fast buses. There are 1400 super classes and 300 fasts. At present 700 to 1000 people travel on an ordinary bus every day.

It is not practical to allow free travel on diesel buses. There are central government schemes to promote electric buses. The second Pinarayi government did not take advantage of this.

If free travel is implemented, there will be an additional liability of Rs 90 crore per month. At present the government is providing Rs 50 crore for salary and Rs 80 crore for pension. There will be an additional liability of Rs 3 crore per month due to increase in fuel prices. If there is free travel then Rs 220 crore will have to be paid.
