Rainwater will no longer accumulate in these 10 sectors of Gurugram; a new drainage system for master roads is ready
Gurugram: There is good news for residents of the Cyber City's newly developing sectors (58 to 67). The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has geared up to resolve the long-standing issue of waterlogging on the Master Road. The Authority has formulated a comprehensive drainage network and road strengthening plan for this entire stretch, which will provide relief from the nightmarish conditions experienced during the monsoon season.
Due to the lack of proper drainage facilities on the Master Road—which connects Sectors 58 through 67—the road turns into a pond even after light rainfall. This not only disrupts traffic flow but also causes the road's surface (bitumen) to deteriorate repeatedly. Local residents and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) have been lodging complaints regarding this issue for a considerable time.
A modern storm water drain will be constructed along the Master Road and subsequently connected to the main drainage channel. Once the drainage work is complete, the road will undergo re-carpeting to ensure smooth vehicular movement. Technical improvements will be incorporated into the road's design to ensure that water flows directly into the drains rather than accumulating at specific spots.
The completion of this project will benefit thousands of families residing along the Golf Course Extension Road and in the surrounding large residential societies. Currently, waterlogging leads to severe traffic congestion at the main intersections of Sectors 61, 62, 65, and 67. According to officials, the tender process for this project will be finalized shortly, paving the way for the commencement of construction work.
According to the GMDA's Engineering Wing, the primary focus is on strengthening the outfalls for water discharge. An improved drainage system will not only extend the lifespan of the road but also reduce maintenance costs.
