Senior Citizen: Will Senior Citizens Again Get Discount in Train Fare, Railway Minister Made a Big Announces
Senior Citizen Train Ticket Discount: For your information, let us tell you that since the Corona period, Railways has given discount on train tickets to senior citizens. There has been a continuous demand to restart the concessions given to senior citizens in trains. In the winter session of the Lok Sabha, some members demanded fare concessions and improvement in facilities for senior citizens traveling in trains. However, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told the Lok Sabha that an average subsidy of 53% is given to every passenger while traveling in the train. He also told who gets exemption from ticket while traveling by train.
Demand for discount in train tickets
Janata Dal (UN) MP Kaushalendra Kumar said during Zero Hour in the House that senior citizens used to get concession in rail fares before the onset of coronavirus, but it was stopped. They were told that Corona virus was over, but senior citizens did not start getting fares. Kumar demanded from the government that the rail fares already available to senior citizens should be restored.

Arrangement of lower berth for senior city resident
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ramesh Bidhuri told the government that senior citizens should get lower seats in trains so that they do not face problems in travelling. He said that nowadays there are small families. And older people usually travel alone. They face problems in getting middle or upper seats in the train. They should get a lower seat.
Farmers Memorial
Congress MP Ravneet Bittu said that a memorial should be built in Delhi in honor of those farmers who died during the farmers' movement. Congress's Pradyut Bordoloi said that the north-eastern country is becoming a cancer capital. And the government should pay attention to this. He asked the government to take necessary action to make cancer treatment affordable. Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh of Janata Dal (United) demanded arrangements for passenger trains at some stations in his parliamentary constituency Munger.

Railway Concessionaires
Railways tries to provide affordable service in trains to all sections of the society. As Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said earlier in the Lok Sabha. Between 2019 and 2020, Railways has given a subsidy of Rs 59,837 crore on passenger tickets. On an average, 53% subsidy is given to every person traveling by railway train. This assistance is provided continuously to all passengers. Railways also gives discount on train tickets to some specific categories of people. There are four categories of persons with disabilities (Divyangjan), eleven categories of patients and eight categories of students. Nearly 1.8 million patients and their companions have benefited from this unique relief during 2022–2023.
