If this trend continues further then cold wave outbreak will start in the state. According to the Meteorological Department, there is little chance of relief from the severe cold in the state for the next three days.

Kanpur was the coldest in the entire state on Thursday night, where the night temperature was recorded at three degrees Celsius. The night temperature in Agra was 3.9 degrees Celsius. According to meteorologists, if the night temperature remains below four degrees. Then there are chances of cold wave. According to the information received from the Zonal Meteorological Center, earlier last year in the year 2023, on January 7 and January 17, the night temperature of Kanpur city had recorded three degrees Celsius. Even in the year 2022, on January 18, the night temperature there was recorded at 2.6 degrees Celsius.

During the last 24 hours, very dense fog was observed at some places in the state. There was a cold day at some places in the eastern region, there was no sunshine. Similar weather prevailed at some places in Western UP also. The day temperature in Kanpur, Lucknow and Moradabad divisions remained much lower than normal. It was less than normal in Ayodhya, Bareilly, Meerut divisions, and less than normal in Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur and Agra divisions.

Melting increased in the plains due to westerly winds
