YuvaPatrkaar : As an important step towards the development of Uttar Pradesh, the construction of Gorakhpur Link Expressway is in its final stages ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. According to UPEDA, the construction of this expressway has been 92 percent completed and it is likely to be inaugurated soon. Its launch will give a new direction to traffic and economic development in Uttar Pradesh.

Construction journey

Construction of the project, announced in 2018, began in February 2019. The construction work was delayed for some time due to rain and soil problems but the pace of work was accelerated after the monsoon.

Features of Gorakhpur Link Expressway

With the opening of this 91.35 km long link expressway, the distance from Gorakhpur to Lucknow will be reduced to three and a half hours which is currently five hours. This expressway will pass through Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar and Azamgarh and will be connected with Varanasi through a separate link road.

Technological advances and challenges

The construction process includes earthworks clearing grubbing and construction of road base. Out of total 341 structures in this project, 337 have been completed and the remaining four are in the final stage.

The opening of Gorakhpur Link Expressway will not only reduce travel time but will also open new opportunities for economic development, industrial progress and employment. This link expressway will present a new development model for Uttar Pradesh.
