Jeevan Praman Patra: The month of November is going to be very important for retirees. Digital Life Certificate for Pensioners is a scheme of the Government of India. This scheme ensures that pensioners do not face any inconvenience in obtaining life certificates. All central and state government pensioners have to submit their life certificates to the concerned department once a year to ensure uninterrupted continuation of their pension. The government has simplified the process of submitting life certificates.

You can now obtain life certificates both offline and online. The government is providing special facilities to pensioners above 80 years of age. For seriously ill pensioners, home-based life certificates are also available. General central and state government pensioners should submit their life certificates between November 1 and November 30 to avoid any disruption in their pension. The government has extended the deadline for submission of life certificates for pensioners above 80 years of age to October 1. This helps them avoid the hassle of rush and gives them extra time. If you do not submit your life certificate on these dates, your pension may be suspended.

How about offline method?
If you are facing difficulty in generating life certificate digitally, you can get it from your nearest bank branch, post office or common service centre. For pensioners who are hospitalized or critically ill, many banks and post offices process life certificate by sending a representative to their home.

How about online method?
Pensioners can use the life certificate portal or the UMANG app to generate life certificate online. After entering their Aadhaar number, mobile number and pension account details, the pensioner undergoes biometric verification. If all the information is correct, the life certificate is generated. This certificate ID is sent to the concerned bank or department.
