IAS Divya Mittal Resigns: UPSC Officer Shares Emotional Post, Reveals Real Reason
IAS Divya Mittal: Divya Mittal, a prominent IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has resigned from the Indian Administrative Service. A 2013-batch officer, Mittal shared an emotional post on social media announcing her decision to voluntarily bring her 13-year administrative journey to a close. News of her resignation has sparked widespread discussion, ranging from administrative circles to social media platforms.
Reflecting on her journey in the post, Mittal wrote that while growing up in a modest environment, she had dreamt of a better and successful life. After completing her education at IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore, she worked in London; however, living abroad, she was constantly troubled by the feeling of being away from her country. Consequently, she decided to return to India and join the IAS.
**Left a Job in London to Become an IAS Officer**
Divya Mittal’s story is particularly notable because she gave up a job in London—after completing her studies at IIT Delhi and management education at IIM Bangalore—to pursue a career in the civil services. Her journey has been highlighted in numerous reports.
She held several key responsibilities as an administrative officer in Uttar Pradesh. Her tenure as the District Magistrate of Mirzapur was particularly noted for her efforts to bring drinking water to Lahuriadah village. The village had long suffered from a water crisis, and thanks to her initiatives, a pipeline was laid to supply water there.
**Shared Memories of Deoria and Mirzapur**
In her emotional message, Divya Mittal also recalled her experiences working in Deoria and Mirzapur. She wrote that Deoria taught her that standing up for what is right is not merely an option but a duty, while Mirzapur taught her that "impossible" is not a fact, but merely an opinion. Expressing her faith in Goddess Vindhyavasini, she noted that she realized there that true power stems not from a position of authority, but from the trust and grace of the people. ‘I Gained the Most’
In her post, Divya Mittal wrote that she had been under the impression she had come to give something to the people, but in reality, it was she who gained the most from them. She described the trust, respect, and affection of the people—whose lives she had the opportunity to transform during her administrative service—as her greatest achievement. She wrote that while walking alongside them through their struggles—whether it was a family receiving land rights for the first time, a differently-abled person gaining the opportunity to live with dignity, or a farmer getting water to their fields—she realized that behind every government file lies a human being, and upholding their dignity is the true essence of justice.
