These weapons were used in Operation Sindoor
India used state-of-the-art and long-range attack weapons in this operation. These included the SCALP cruise missile, Hammer precision bomb and loitering munition.

SCALP cruise missile (SCALP-EG/ Storm Shadow)

This missile is known as Storm Shadow in Britain. It is a French-British long-range, low-visibility air-to-ground cruise missile. It is built by European defense company MBDA. It is part of India's 36 Rafale jets.

Features of SCALP:

Range- 250-560 km (depending on launch altitude)

Speed- Subsonic, Mach 0.8 (about 1000 km/h)

Weight- about 1300 kg

Guidance system- GPS and navigation

Infrared seeker- Guidance in the final stage based on the thermal image of the target

Terrain reference navigation- Flight based on terrain features, which helps to avoid radar.

Flight altitude- Flying at low altitudes ranging from 100 to 130 feet, which enables it to evade radars.

HAMMER (Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range)

The HAMMER smart bomb was used to attack fortified structures such as Lashkar and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) bunkers and multi-storey buildings. HAMMER is a precision-guided, standoff munition capable of striking targets at ranges of 50-70 kilometres depending on the launch altitude.

Loitering Munition

Also known as “kamikaze drones”, loitering munitions were deployed for surveillance, target acquisition and terminal strike roles. These drone systems hover over target areas and identify and eliminate threats either autonomously or under remote control.
