Latur News: Went to pick cotton, suddenly the river flow increased & the millet was washed away, a terrible incident occurred a few hours later
Rishikesh Holikar, Latur: A tragic incident came to light in Latur district yesterday, a Mayleki died after being swept away in the Tiru river in Jalkot taluka. It is known that this incident took place on November 3 between 11 am and 11 am.
More information about this is that Kaushalya Ajay Waghmare (age 35) and Rukmini Ajay Waghmare (age 14) of Mar Sangvi in Jalkot taluka were going to pick cotton in the field of Mariba Waghmare of Mar Sangvi. The field for picking cotton was across the river. While going to the field, there was little water in the river. However, due to the sudden increase in the water flow in the Tiru river, both of them were swept away in the water flow and died. As soon as the information came to light that this Mayleki had been swept away, some people from the village ran to the riverbed and tried to pull out the Mayleki. But by then both of them had also died. The village is in mourning due to the simultaneous death of Maileki.
The flow increased due to the release of water from the Tiru project
The Tiru project is upstream of the village of Marsangvi. This Tiru project is full to its capacity. Every day, the gate of this Tiru project is opened and water is being released into the riverbed. Suddenly, water was released into the Tiru riverbed and the flow of water increased in Marsangvi. Due to this, both Maileki died due to the lack of water forecast, informed Sarpanch Ravi Gorkhe and Chairman Umakant Imde.
Citizens are demanding a bridge
Marsangvi village is on the banks of the Tiru river. Also, after the Tiru river floods, flood water enters these villages too. Many times, the citizens of the village had to sit on the terraces. The citizens of this village face great difficulty in going to the fields on the other side of the riverbed. Now this year, water is continuously flowing from the riverbed, due to which the farmers have stopped going to the fields. The villagers had demanded many times that a bridge be built at the place where the path to the farm is from the riverbed. Many political and various officials had visited this village and inspected this place. This time, the villagers had demanded that a bridge be built. But the bridge was not built. There is also a discussion going on in the village that if there had been a bridge at this place, the lives of these two people would have been saved.
Six people die in two months due to flood
This year, heavy rains wreaked havoc in Jalkot taluka. Due to this, many rivers flooded. Six people have died in the taluka due to being swept away in the flood in these two to three months. The main reason for this is the low-height bridge and the lack of a bridge. Both Shan Suryavanshi and Vaibhav Gaikwad from Malhipparga were swept away due to this flood. Also, Sudarshan Ghonshette from Tiruka was swept away and all three of them died due to being swept away in the flood. Similarly, Balaji Potne, a farmer from Dhorsangvi in the taluka, was swept away in the flood waters. Now, two of his daughters from Marsangvi have died.
