Women Govt Employees Will Get Right To Pension

Pension For Women: The Central Government on Tuesday said that women employees will be able to nominate their child or children for family pension instead of their husband in case of marital dispute.

Rule 50 of the Central Civil Services (Pension), 2021 allows grant of family pension after the death of a government servant or retired government servant.

If a deceased government employee or pensioner has a surviving spouse. So family pension is given first to the husband or wife.

Have there been changes in the rules?

As per the rules, only if the spouse of the deceased government employee/pensioner becomes ineligible for family pension or dies, other members of the family become eligible for family pension in their turn. The Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare (DOPPW) has now amended the rules. And a woman employee has been permitted to nominate her child/children instead of her husband for family pension.

V Srinivas, Secretary, Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare (DOPPW), said, 'In all the cases in which divorce petitions have been filed. Or petitions have been filed under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. Or involving cases registered under the Indian Penal Code. This amendment allows a woman government employee to have her family pension distributed to her eligible child instead of her husband. He said that this amendment was made by DOPPW in consultation with the Ministry of Women and Child Development, keeping in mind the representations received.

Srinivas, a 1989 batch Rajasthan cadre officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), said, 'This amendment is progressive in nature. And empower women employees in matters of family pension.
