"This arrest has come as a shock to us. Sikandar had gone to Mohali for training. In our religion, earning money through wrong means is a sin. We feel that my son has been implicated in this case. A few days ago, Sikandar called me and said that he wants to wrestle for the next 5 to 6 years. He had gone to Mohali with the sole aim of winning the Hind Kesari title," his father said on Twitter. The main accused in the case, Tanveer, belongs to the 'Babala Gujarat' gang that operates in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Tanveer and Bunty came to supply weapons to Happy Gurjar and Sikandar Sheikh. An FIR has been registered in this case at the Sadar Kharar police station in SAS Nagar. Further investigation is underway to trace the entire network.
The Hind Kesari tournament is held every year. This year, the tournament will be held in the last week of November. The last Hindi Kesari tournament in Maharashtra was held in Kolhapur in 2011. Wrestlers from all over the country participate in this tournament. Sikandar Sheikh is known for his fast and tactical movements. His moves have few rivals.
Nationalist Congress Party (SP) state working president Supriya Sule has contacted Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in this regard. They have sought more information in the matter and the Chief Minister has assured them of information.
Karjat Jamketse MLA Rohit Pawar said in X, "Sikandar Sheikh is a 'long racehorse' and it is difficult to believe that he would indulge in such criminal activities."
Dinnath Singh, a Hind Kesari winning wrestler and trainer from Kolhapur, said, "Shri Shahu's winning training has produced many renowned wrestlers. Sikander also trained here. If the allegations against him are true, then he has made a big mistake. Many budding wrestlers should learn from this and remain loyal to the sport."
