IMD had issued an alert regarding severe heat and heatwave conditions in the state, after which the vacation was announced prioritizing student safety.

Only 27 Days of Vacation This Time

The biggest change in this year's summer vacation is its duration. As per the new guidelines from the education department, schools will remain closed from May 20 to June 15, 2026. 

This means students will get a total of 27 days of summer vacation this year. Earlier, these holidays used to last for about 42 days, but this time the duration has been reduced after changes in the rules.

Why Was the Vacation Period Reduced?

The government believes this decision was necessary to reduce academic loss and maintain a balanced academic calendar. In the past few years, school schedules have been disrupted several times due to weather and other reasons. 

The education department is now trying to create a balance between studies and holidays.

Schools to Reopen from June 16

According to the official order, after the holidays end on June 15, all schools will reopen from June 16, 2026. Students will have to return to their classes regularly. 

Parents and school management have been instructed to prepare in advance so that the new session can start without any issues.
