After Nasir Iqbal's victory in singles, Ghoshal was successful in leveling the score at 1-1, due to which the gold medal was to be decided by the match between Abhay and Zaman. The hero of the day was Chennai's Abhay, who showed amazing composure in a roller-coaster decider to defeat Zaman 3-2.
Zaman was leading 9-7 in the fourth game and 10-8 in the deciding game. But Indian player Abhay somehow came back and registered a memorable victory in the 64-minute marathon match with the scores of 11-7, 9-11, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10. After this victory he threw his racket in the air.
The defeat from Pakistan was avenged
Earlier, the experienced Ghoshal led India back into the contest with a 3-0 (11-5, 11-1, 11-3) win over Mohammad Asim Khan as Mahesh Mangawankar lost to Iqbal Nasir in the opening match by the same margin (8-11, 2-11. 3-11). In this way, India avenged the defeat suffered by Pakistan in the league stage.
India had won the men's team squash gold medal at the Incheon 2014 stage while Pakistan had last won the gold medal at Guangzhou 2010.
Ghoshal is playing his sixth Asiad and will now focus on winning his first gold medal in the individual event. He has won three bronze and one silver medal in singles from the Busan 2002 Asian Games.
