August 2023 Auto Sales : From Maruti To Mahindra, Know How The Indian Automakers Performed
August 2023 Auto Sales : Indian automakers have reported an increase in passenger and commercial vehicle sales in the month of August ahead of the festive season. In the passenger vehicles (PV) category, sales of Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra grew 16.4% and 26% respectively in the month compared to a year ago. Maruti Suzuki recorded total sales of 165,402 units in August.
According to reports, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (M&M Limited) reported that its total auto sales in the month of August 2023 stood at 70,350 vehicles, a growth of 19% including exports. In the utility vehicle segment, Mahindra sold its highest-ever 37,270 SUVs in the domestic market last month, and 38,164 vehicles overall including exports. Domestic sales of commercial vehicles stood at 23,613 units.
According to Vijay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, “We are excited to see another record month. Because we have recorded our highest ever SUV domestic sales of 37,270 in a month with a growth of 26%. We also recorded an overall growth of 19% in the month of August. While demand for our key SUV brands remains strong. We are keeping a close eye on the availability of semi-conductors and select parts for continued and smooth scale up.

Tata Motors sold 78,010 units
Tata Motors' passenger vehicle sales have declined by 3.5%. Tata Motors Limited's sales in the domestic and international markets in August 2023 stood at 78,010 vehicles, while last year during 2022 it was 78,843 units. Domestic sales of MH and ICVs in August 2023, including trucks and buses, stood at 13,306 units. Total sales of MH&ICV domestic and international business including trucks and buses stood at 13,816 units last month.
Two-wheeler maker TVS Motor reported a 5% growth in sales, while Bajaj Auto saw a 31% decline in sales. Eicher Motors' total motorcycle sales grew by 11%. TVS Motor Company had sold 333,787 units in August last year, while this year it increased to 345,848 units, registering a growth of 4%.
