Salman Khan's fitness secrets: The importance of a simple lifestyle & discipline
Bollywood's 'Dabangg' star Salman Khan has amazed fans with his fitness even at the age of 59. On November 3, he shared a shirtless photo on social media, in which his abs and toned physique were clearly visible. "You have to give up something to get something... I got this without giving up," he captioned it. This photo has everyone curious about the secret of Salman's fitness at this age.
Salman Khan's fitness trainer, Rakesh R. Uddiyar, who has been working with him for over 20 years, said in an interview that Salman does not depend on any 'fancy' or 'trendy' workouts. He follows a classic, old-fashioned bodybuilding routine, called 'giant set'. This is a type of high-intensity interval training (HIIT). Notably, Salman works out with the AC off. According to Rakesh, HIIT causes more sweat, fatigues faster and burns more calories in less time. Salman usually completes his HIIT routine in 45 minutes to 1 hour.
In this 'giant set' workout, Salman includes multiple exercise types at once. For example, for the chest, he does about 10 different exercise types, such as inclines, push-ups, flyes and others. Rakesh says that Salman does not focus on lifting heavy weights, but focuses on 'volume training'. This means that he starts another exercise immediately after one exercise and takes only 30 seconds of rest between each exercise. His only relaxation during the workout is to drink water and walk between exercises. He does not spend hours and hours in the gym.
Salman's disciplined lifestyle complements his fitness routine. According to Rakesh, Salman does not sleep without doing weight training and cardio. He wakes up early in the morning and does cardio on an empty stomach, followed by weight training. Salman works out 6 days a week and rests for one day.
Salman's diet also does not have anything fancy or magical. He only eats 'home-cooked food'. He eats 5 meals a day. He eats porridge, eggs and fruits in the morning. He eats home-cooked food, such as fish or chicken, for lunch. Rakesh says that Salman eats less rice and more vegetables. Salads are an important part of his diet. He has a cheat meal once a week, but even that does not exceed 2000 calories.
In short, Salman Khan's fitness is not based on any shortcuts, trends or extreme restrictions. It is the result of discipline, consistency and simplicity. His old-fashioned workouts and nutritious home-cooked meals illustrate his view that sustainable fitness comes not from excess, but from dedication and balance.
