The nine-day inauguration ceremony of the Akshardham Temple in Robbinsville, New Jersey began on September 30 and ended on October 9. The temple was opened for devotees on Sunday in the presence of Mahant Swami Maharaj.

It is the second largest Hindu temple in the world built outside India in the modern era. It took about 12 years to build this temple. This grand temple is dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan. It is situated about 60 km south of New York. While this temple is located in the small Robbinsville township of New Jersey, about 180 km north of Washington DC. BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham was built by more than 12,500 volunteers from across the United States over 12 years from 2011 to 2023.

Grand Hindu temple built on 185 acres in New Jersey
BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham, the largest Hindu temple spread over 185 acres in New Jersey, was opened to devotees after its inauguration on Sunday. This temple gives the message of unity, peace and harmony to the people living in America and around the world. Swami Maharaj conducted the 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony at the temple amid rituals and traditional ceremonies. On this occasion, volunteer Lenin Joshi said that Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple presents the heritage and culture of India to modern America.

There are 10 thousand idols installed in the temple
Even before the formal inauguration of the temple, thousands of people come here every day for darshan. This temple, known as Adhar Dham, is built in an area of 185 acres. The temple is built according to ancient Hindu scriptures and depicts ancient Indian culture, including 10,000 sculptures and statues, carvings of Indian musical instruments and dance forms. Its peak is at 191 feet.

When will this temple open for the common people?
Akshardham Temple in New Jersey, USA will be formally inaugurated on October 8 and will be opened for general devotees from October 18. After the inauguration, a large number of devotees are expected to reach here. Aksharvatsaldas Swami, a senior religious leader of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, had earlier said that this was his (Pramukh Swami Maharaj's) wish and this was his resolution. As per his resolution, this Akshardham is built in accordance with the traditional Hindu temple architecture.
