In the year 2017, to prevent pollution, registration of diesel-powered commercial vehicles was banned. However, there was permission to operate diesel vehicles from other states from Delhi.
Former Assistant Commissioner of Transport Department, Anil Chikara said that during his tenure, commercial diesel vehicles were banned. On an average, about one thousand commercial diesel vehicles were registered every year. By taking 28 percent GST and road tax on vehicle registration, revenue of about Rs 30 to 35 thousand was earned on every Rs 1 lakh.
Two thousand transporters were affected, used to buy vehicles from other states: Sanjay Samrat, President of Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transport Association, said that there were about two thousand transporters in the capital. Everyone was affected by the ban on registration of diesel vehicles. Transporters had to purchase vehicles from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana and get them registered at their addresses, which caused inconvenience to them and also resulted in loss of revenue. Now registration has started again. This has brought relief to everyone. Along with this, tourism will also get a boost.
