RBI Guideliness: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said that Rs 2,000 notes withdrawn from circulation can also be exchanged with the help of post offices. You can get money in your bank account by sending Rs 2,000 notes from any post office to any of its 19 offices, the Reserve Bank said in the "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQ) on its website.

For this, the person has to fill an online application form and send the notes to the RBI office through any facility of Indian Post. Download the form on RBI website. In fact, there are still queues of people at RBI regional offices to exchange Rs 2,000 notes.

How many notes can be exchanged?

The RBI FAQ says a person can exchange or deposit notes at 19 RBI offices up to a limit of Rs 20,000 at a time along with post office facilities. RBI had decided to withdraw Rs 2,000 notes in May last year. At the time of demonetisation in November 2016, this note was issued for the first time.

The RBI said the decision to withdraw the Rs 2,000 notes was taken as most of these notes have completed their expected life. And people are also not buying much of them.

By May 2023, more than 97.38 per cent of notes worth Rs 2,000 were withdrawn. RBI has provided an option to exchange or deposit this note in bank branches.
