Jaya Wins, Bangladesh Court Accepts Actress' Plea For Wildlife Conservation
Jaya Ahsan : The Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 made elephant poaching illegal in India. Two years later, the Bangladesh government also made a law for the protection of elephants. But even after that the society did not stop using elephants for entertainment. Actress Jaya Ahsan thought about this. A few days ago, the actress had filed an application against this case in the Dhaka High Court. Recently the court there has given recognition to Jaya Ahsan.
A voluntary organization working on animal rights in Bangladesh took this initiative in collaboration with Jaya. The appeal filed by him in the court states that elephants cannot be used for any commercial or entertainment purpose except for use in circus or any procession. Bangladesh High Court gave its verdict in this case on Sunday. The court also ordered to stop the license to keep elephants in private ownership.

When contacted by Anandabazar Online, Jaya said, 'The training of elephants by snatching them from their mother's lap is medieval barbarity. This is criminal and immoral.'' Jaya had filed a petition in the court on 18 February. The actress said, “Earlier we had requested the forest department several times to take action against it. but to no avail. “In the end we were forced to resort to court.”
How did Jaya feel after knowing that the court's decision went in her favor? The actress said, "I and everyone associated with this initiative are very happy." According to sources, currently there are about 200 elephants in Bangladesh, more than half of which are in captivity. Jaya hopes that soon the elephants will be able to return to their natural state.
