Buy New Sim Card : The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has introduced new rules regarding the issuance and use of SIM cards in India. Due to which strictness will be maintained in the procedures from purchasing a new SIM to activating it. The two circulars issued by DoT add and modify new rules for the sale and use of SIM cards.

According to reports, one circular issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is for SIM card users and the other circular is for telecom companies. The new rules aim to further strengthen security in the way SIM cards are sold in India. The new rules mandate a new and more stringent KYC process for SIM card selling shops. In such a situation, telecom companies will have to do complete KYC of their SIM card selling shops. If they do not do so, the companies will have to pay a fine of Rs 10 lakh for each shop.

These new rules are going to come into effect from October 1, 2023. According to which, it will be mandatory for the existing shops selling SIM cards to get their KYC done as per the new norms by September 30, 2024. Apart from this, companies will have to keep a close eye on who is selling their SIM cards and in what manner. Whereas in some regions like Assam, Kashmir and North East, telecom operators will have to first introduce police verification of stores. Only after this will permission be given to sell new SIM cards.

At the same time, rules have also been changed for customers purchasing SIM cards. At present, Aadhaar verification is done when purchasing a SIM card. According to the new rules, it will be necessary to re-issue the SIM card even in case the current card is damaged or lost. This process will also be like the same verification process that happens while getting a new SIM.
