Asian Games 2023 : The Indian men's table tennis team lost 0-3 to the second-tier South Korean team here on Sunday, shattering its dream of winning a medal in the Asian Games.
India suffered a bad defeat
Harmeet Desai lost the first match to An Jaehyun 0-3. G Sathiyan tried to challenge Park Ganghyeon but he too was no match for the South Korean player.
The onus was now on Achanta Sharath Kamal to bring India a comeback but he too lost to O Junsung 2-3. This defeat would have hurt India more because the top three players of South Korea did not play in this match.
Earlier, Sharath Kamal made great use of his experience and won the last three games, due to which the Indian team was successful in defeating Kazakhstan 3-2 in a close match in the pre-quarterfinals. However, the women's team had to face defeat by Thailand 2-3 in the pre-quarters.

In the men's competition, the match between Kazakhstan and India was tied 2-2 and in the decider, Sharat Aidos lost the first two games to Kenzhigulov. He then used his experience to win three consecutive games and give the match to India. Sharath won this close match by 5-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9.
Earlier, he had to face defeat by Gerasimenko Kirill 3-1 (11-8, 9-11, 11-6, 11-8) in the team's opening match. Wins by G Sathiyan and Harmeet Desai put India ahead 2-1. Sathiyan defeated Eidos 3-0 (14-12, 11-8, 11-4) while Harmeet defeated Kurmangaliev Alan 3-0 (11-7, 12-10, 11-5).
However, Sathiyan could not continue the winning streak in his second match. Kirill defeated him 3-2 (11-5, 9-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-5) to make the score 2-2.

In the women's category, experienced Manika Batra lost both the matches. It was a big shock. Ayhika Mukherjee registered a win in one match while she had to face defeat in the other match. Sutirtha Mukherjee was successful in winning her only match.
