According to media reports, the epicenter of this devastating earthquake in Morocco was about 70 kilometers away from the city of Marrakesh. The tremors were also felt in the capital Rabat, some 350 km from Marrakesh. According to Indian time, earthquake tremors were felt in Morocco at 3.41 am. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has called it the most powerful earthquake to hit North Africa in 120 years.
According to the USGS, no M6 level or greater earthquake has occurred within 500 km of this region since the year 1900. Only 9 earthquakes of M-5 level have been recorded here. The chilling photos and videos related to the earthquake are being shared on social media. Most of the building collapses occurred in the old city of Marrakesh. The administration along with the local people is busy in removing the debris.
