Anwar ul Haq appointed as Caretaker Prime Minister

A press release from the PMO said that PM Shehbaz and the outgoing Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Raja Riaz have recommended the appointment of Anwar ul Haq as Caretaker Prime Minister to President Arif Alvi.

The President of Pakistan wrote a letter

Earlier, President of Pakistan Arif Alvi had written a letter to Shehbaz Sharif asking him to appoint a new caretaker Prime Minister at the earliest. He had said that within three days of the dissolution of the National Assembly under Article-224A, Sharif and Riyaz would together decide the name of a leader for the post of caretaker prime minister.

Shahbaz Sharif had also expressed his displeasure over President Alvi's letter. Reacting to the President's letter, Sharif said he was disappointed to receive the letter.

Anwar ul Haq Kakar is a Member of Parliament from Balochistan. Kakar represents the Awami Party (BAP) from Balochistan. Kakar was elected as an independent senator from Balochistan in 2018. His tenure is of six years which will end in March 2024.

He has served as the chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development and as a member of the Advisory Committee on Trade, Finance and Revenue, Foreign Affairs and Science and Technology. Kakar has also held the role of parliamentary leader for the Balochistan Awami Party, formed in 2018, within the Senate.
