Weather Forecast: The new year has started with severe cold across the country. Delhi witnessed a very cold day on the first day of the New Year, with the temperature hitting 17 degrees Celsius.

According to this, a decrease in temperature can be expected from January 5 to 11. This weather change may cause cold wave in some North Indian states.

There will be cold wave in these states

Speaking to ANI, IMD Director General Dr Mrityunjay Mohapatra said, “During January 5 to 11, we are expecting a drop in night temperatures.
This may cause cold wave in Central India. Day temperature will also be below normal, especially in northern parts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Cold will persist in southern parts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana and Rajasthan. Cold wave is expected in these areas from 5th to 11th.

However, the IMD said in a press release issued on Monday that cold day to severe cold day conditions are likely over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan in the next two days. Later its intensity will start reducing.

IMD announced, "cold day to very cold day is likely over Punjab, Haryana on January 1 and 2 and very cold day on January 3. Also, the weather department has predicted cold days over various areas on January 4 and 5.

Chance of severe cold day

"Cool day to severe cold day conditions are likely over parts of Uttar Pradesh and isolated parts of West Rajasthan on January 1 and 2," the IMD said.

It is said in this. That "cold day conditions are likely over isolated parts of East Rajasthan during 1-3 January, over Madhya Pradesh on 2 January and over West Rajasthan on 3 January 2024.

However, the weather department said most parts of central India are likely to see below normal cold wave days in January 2024.

It may rain in these states

The IMD said that due to the fresh easterly wave and low pressure over the west equatorial Indian Ocean and the adjoining south-east Arabian Sea,

Till January 4, light to moderate rain will occur over southern India including South Tamil Nadu, South Kerala and Lakshadweep. Apart from this, light rain may occur over northern UP, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Giving further information, he said that clouds are forming over Lakshadweep and Maldives islands. Because a low pressure area is forming over the south-east Arabian Sea.

IMD's estimates are. Lakshadweep is likely to receive heavy rainfall with winds reaching 40-50 km/hr in the coming three days.
